Beliefs In Christianity Mormons Disagree With

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ." (Galatians:6,7)
1Adam
Bible:Sin came into the world through Adam. Therefore, all have sinned. His origin is like any other person that has been born. There is no divinity about him.
Mormonism:Adam was the first man to ever live on this earth and was also God the Father. He is also called the "Ancient of Days", and his wife, Eve, is our Mother in Heeaven.
Romans 5:12,19 (KJV)12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
1 Corinthians 15:22,45 (KJV) 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
2Afterlife
Bible:People go to Paradise or Hell. There are no second chances after death. People wait till judgment, where they will either be sent to the new earth/new heaven or the lake of fire.
Mormonism:When people die, they either go to Spirit Prison or Paradise. After judgment, people either go to one of three Kingdoms. Anybody that accepts a baptism for the dead can enter heaven.
Revelation 20:11-15 (KJV) 11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:1-8 (KJV) 1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
3Atonement
Bible:Jesus suffered and died for our sins on the cross. In no other location did the atonement take place.
Mormonism:Jesus suffered for our sins in the garden, and finished the payment for sins on the cross.
Romans 5:6-11 (KJV) 6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
4Baptism
Bible:Baptism is not necessary for salvation; our faith alone in Jesus saves us. Look a the thief on the cross. He went to paradise and was waved without being baptized.
Mormonism:Everyone is required to be baptized in order to be saved and go to heaven. For this reason, people get second chances after death to receive their baptism.
Mark 16:15,16 (KJV) 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Romans 6:1-4 (KJV) 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5Exaltation
Bible:Only Jesus is exalted, not us. We will never become a God in heaven, but like unto angels. There are mansions prepared for us in heaven.
Mormonism:Every person in the One True Church is exalted to Godhood. They become as God is now and are given a planet where they can populate it.
Mark 12:18-27 (KJV) 18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying, 19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed. 21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise. 22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also. 23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife. 24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. 26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
John 14:1-4 (KJV) 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
6Father
Bible:God is Spirit, and we are to worship Him in spirit and truth. He is omnipresent and His Spirit can be in any place and at anytime.
Mormonism:The Father has a body of flesh and bones and not Spirit only. He was once human before being exalted to Godhood like all other Gods.
John 4:21-24 (KJV) 21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Proverbs 15:3 (KJV) 3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
7Gospel
Bible:Jesus suffered for our sins and died on the cross. He was buried, and then rose from the grave the third day.
Mormonism:Jesus suffered for our sins in the garden, finished the payment on the cross, was buried, and rose from the grave.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV) 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
8Jesus
Bible:Jesus has always been God and is the creator of all things heaven and earth. That includes Lucifer, who was once an angel. He is not Satan's brother.
Mormonism:Jesus became God like His Father also.  The Father is our creator and Jesus assisted in it. He is our brother, and also the brother of Lucifer.
Colossians 1:12-17 (KJV) 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
9Marriage
Bible:There is no marriage in heaven. Marriage ends when we die. Jesus said there is no marriage in the resurrection.
Mormonism:Those who are alive and are dead are able to be sealed to their spouse and children for all eternity in the temple.
Matthew 22:23-32 (KJV) 23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, 24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother: 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. 27 And last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. 31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying, 32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
10Pre-existence
Bible:Before the earth's creation, God and His angels existed, not humans. Our life begins in the mother's womb. That is where God forms us, and also breathes in us our spirit. We exist to know and serve God.
Mormonism:Human spirits existed with God, and the angels before the earth was created. Our spirits were sent down to specific families depending upon our lives in the pre-existance.
Psalm 139:13,14 (KJV) 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Isaiah 44:2 (KJV) 2 Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
11Priesthood
Bible:Jesus fulfilled the law and we are under His priesthood now. He is our High Priest. Those who believe in Him are all under His royal priesthood. There is no need for anyome to be ordained a priest.
Mormonism:People obtain the priesthood by the laying on of hands. First the Aaronic Priesthood and then the Melchizedek Priesthood as people get older. This is God's authority given to people in His church.
Numbers 3:5-8 (KJV) 5 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him. 7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle. 8 And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.
Hebrews 5:1 (KJV) 1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
Hebrews 9:11-14 (KJV) 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
1 Peter 2:9,10 (KJV) 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
12Prophets
Bible:God used prophets as His mouthpiece until John. Prophesy is a gift of the Holy Spirit from God and still exists. However, prophets are not over the church. Jesus is leading us, and we are to follow Him.
Mormonism:God uses prophets now as He always has. The Lord God has always called prophets and still does today. They are God's mouthpiece, and we are to follow them.
Luke 16:16 (KJV) 16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (KJV) 1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
Hebrews 1:1,2 (KJV) 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
13Temples
Bible:God's presence dwelled in temples until Jesus's crucifixion. But the veil was rent and now everyone can enter God's presence. We are now the temple of the living God now. God no longer dwells in temples made with hands.
Mormonism:God dwells in His holy temples. There is a need to do works for every person that has died, of whom wasn't baptized in the One True Church. This is where families are sealed for time and all eternity.
Matthew 27:45-51 (KJV) 45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias. 48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. 49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him. 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
Acts 7:44-54 (KJV) 44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen. 45 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; 46 Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. 47 But Solomon built him an house. 48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, 49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? 50 Hath not my hand made all these things? 51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. 52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: 53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. 54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.
1 Corinthians 6:15-20 (KJV) 15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. 17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
14Trinity
Bible:The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one God. They exist as three persons in one being. The Father is not Jesus or the Holy Spirit and vice versa. The Father is Spirit, along with the Holy Spirit. Jesus has a body.
Mormonism:The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exist as three distinct Beings or three Gods. They are only one in purpose or unity. The Father and Jesus have bodies, where only the Holy Spirit is Spirit.
John 14:8-10 (KJV) 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
1 John 5:7 (KJV) 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

  1. Brigham Young did teach that Adam was God, which is ridiculous! However, that doctrine has been disavowed. This certainly doesn’t make the church true or anything but at least some of the ridiculous teachings are no longer taught.

  2. When Jesus Christ was transfigured before Peter, James, and John on the Mount of Transfiguration Moses and Elijah appeared signifying that Christ had fulfilled the Law and the Prophets.

  3. So then those LDS “Prophets” who taught Adam was God and all that other “ridiculous” stuff were leading members astray? It was taught a GC and in the Temple?!! And if they were leading members astray then all the teachings of LDS “Prophets” who taught “we can never lead members astray” were teaching false doctrine as well?

  4. Man! If you’re going to bad mouth the Church and point out all its differences with the Bible, it would be best to understand what you’re talking about. There’s so much either wrong or misleading or not described as it really is, that I don’t have the time to correct you.
Please go to LDS.org and learn some stuff. See if you still feel the same.
